Labneh, & Cherry Tomato Dip with Basil Leaf

During the hot summer season, I prefer light and healthy food rather than something heavy, filling, and oily. With this in mind, I prepared a simple dip with labneh, basil, and cherry tomatoes. When my kids are hungry, they simply savor it with a baguette and enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup labneh or Greek yogurt
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomatoes sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes
  • 1½ teaspoons sesame sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnishing)
  • 1 red onion, small size, finely chopped
  • 1 stock chicken or vegetable cube (optional)
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 1 cup basil leaf
  • 6-8 cherry tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Salt according to taste

Method:

Heat a large saucepan and add oil over medium heat. Then add chopped onions and garlic. Cook till they get fragrant. Add chicken cube, chili flakes, sesame sauce, basil, tomato sauce, and salt. Reduce heat, stir rapidly, and let it simmer until the mixture thickens. Turn off the heat and season with black pepper. Set aside.

In a bowl, mix together labneh, sugar, and salt. Pour the labneh in the serving dish. Then add two heaped tablespoons of tomato mixture on top. Garnish with cherry tomatoes, basil leaves, and sesame seeds. Serve with warm baguette or any bread.
