Vermicelli, known in the vernacular as ‘seviyan’, is made of semolina flour and and fine wheat flour. It is a long noodle similar to the thinner variety of spaghetti and most commonly eaten in Pakistan on special occasions. In my recipe, I use plain toast, coat with vermicelli, and pan-fry until they turn golden brown. Here is my recipe for everyone to enjoy.
Ingredients:
- 5-6 toast, cut into thick slices
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup whole milk
- 1 tablespoon ricotta cheese
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup vermicelli, crushed
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
For garnishing:
- Fresh strawberries
- Honey
Method:
In a large bowl, mix together eggs, milk, ricotta cheese, sugar, nutmeg, vanilla extract, cinnamon and salt to make a smooth mixture. Soak each of the toast with egg mixture and coat with vermicelli. Set aside.
Heat butter lightly on a skillet over medium heat. Pan-fry soaked bread until it turns golden color on each side. Sprinkle honey on the toast and serve with strawberries.
